⏰ Work life balance has very little to do with time

⛔️ It’s has far more to do with what you want to be doing with your time and what you don’t want to be doing with your time.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 More often it has even more to do with relationship expectations alignment.

In the first insistence ⏰ there are conversations to be had about doing what’s important over what seems urgent and how a skilful conversation can save 1,000 hours and how an unskillful conversation can create 1,000 wasted hours.

In the second ⛔️ we can talk about aligning values, purpose, and passion behind what you’re doing as well as creating a life you love now rather than waiting for some distant goal that will some how magically change everything.

The third 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 is most often the greatest energy drain as we guess at what we think they want, we imagine where we are falling short or we are outright being told that we aren’t meeting standard. This failure to align causes the brain to GUESS at the energy cost of meeting perceived expectations and literally takes away our energy in the face of it (yes that’s how energy works- it’s called allostasis) which leads to guilt because we didn’t meet those perceived expectations. People tend to think others want our time, usually they want our attention, support and curiosity.

In short work life balance is about knowing who we are, what we want and the life we want to live and aligning that we those we most care about then deciding how we might more and more skilfully create that.

Which area is most causing you to feel like your need better work life balance?
